For years, Donald Trump has slowly seeped his way into the world of professional golf. He has built courses all over the planet and recently began hosting some high profile tournaments. The Puerto Rico Open and the Cadillac Championship at Doral both take place on Trump owned resorts, for example.
According to a report, Trump is looking to make an even bigger splash with his next purchase, Turnberry in Scotland.
If he were to purchase the course, one thing would be on his mind: a major championship. Hosting one of golf’s biggest tournaments has been something that Trump has wanted to add to his golf resume for a while now. He has expressed his desire to host a major at Doral, but Turnberry is officially in the British Open rota. Given its position as one of the nine Open courses, it’s possible to see the championship contested at Turnberry within the next decade.
Something tells me Trump will make this thing official soon. After that, he’ll make a big time push to host the Open. I can only imagine how the Donald’s hair will hold up on the Scottish coast.
