2013 PGA Tour Wrap-Up: Part Two

Yesterday, we looked at the post season awards you are likely to hear about this week. After that happens most of the golf talk you will hear will be centered around the President’s Cup. So I hope you enjoyed your little break because the President’s Cup will be great and you should watch.

And I will let you in on a little secret: I love international golf competitions. They are great. I, like you all should, love to cheer on my country, no matter what type of competition we may find ourselves in. Who doesn’t love a good USA chant? You can literally start one anywhere, at any time. I know. I do it a lot, mainly while drinking.

But that’s neither here nor there. Let’s stick to golf shall we?

The bi-annual President’s Cup will invade Muirfield Village next week. On paper, the US team should pound the International squad. And that is not my patriotic homerism. The better players are on the US squad from top to bottom. No offense to Richard Sterne, but I would rather have Keegan Bradley. And with all due respect to Angel Cabrera, I’ll take Jason Dufner.

But, alas, they won’t just hand over the trophy to the USA, they’ll have to earn it.

I’ll be watching a few things. First, what type of pairings will Fred Couples go with for the US? I hope we get a little more Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley action. They were an electric team at last year’s Ryder Cup. How about Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods? That would be fun. The legend and the bright young star. Really, there aren’t going to be bad groups, just ones I would like to see more than others.

I’ll also be watching to see how the International team responds to some less than stellar predictions for their team. Sure, on paper, the US team should dust the International squad, but I think it will be closer than people think. Remember, Adam Scott has been no slouch this year.

The last thing I am looking forward to is the crowd. Last year at the Ryder Cup was great. Remember this? That’s a lot to live up to, but I feel confident in the cheering ability of the folks from Columbus.

The President’s Cup starts in a week and I am pumped.

Make sure to check back tomorrow as I continue my 2013 wrap up by taking a look at the top storylines for next season.
