Alright, now we are rolling. Everyone’s getting in on the action this week. The PGA, European Tour, and the Ladies all get down this week. And celebrities? Oh yeah, there are celebs as well. Here’s the rundown for the week.
Tournament: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Location: Pebble Beach Golf Links (Host Course, that means there will be other courses played), Pebble Beach, CA
Dates: 2/9/12 – 2/12/12
On Tap: This week the Tour heads to historic Pebble Beach on the picturesque Monterrey Peninsula. There a lot of story lines this week. Why don’t we start with the biggest? Tiger Woods makes his PGA Tour season debut this week. He’s coming off a strong showing in Abu Dahbi a couple weeks ago, but in recent Tiger form, he couldn’t keep it together for 4 consecutive rounds. He stumbled down the stretch and finished in third. Could this be the week Tiger breaks through and gets his first official win in forever? Maybe. Tiger is paired with Tony Romo for the Pro-Am portion of the tournament. Romo, by all accounts, is a pretty good golfer. In fact, he has come very close to qualifying for the US Open. I think this helps Tiger. First, Tiger is teeing it up at the course where he once lapped the field in the 2000 US Open. He’s had success here. Second, he’s paired with someone that shares his laser-like focus (unless its playoff time – zing!). You think Tiger would put up with Bill Murray’s antics AND win a golf tournament? I doubt it. And the last thing TIger has going for him? He’s oh so close. He has been stringing together solid performances recently. I expect that trend to continue. Look for another solid showing from Eldrick here.
What else is there to watch? How about defending champs D.A. Points and Bill Murray. Last year, the loose and fun loving nature of Murray propelled Points to the W. Can they repeat their 2011 magic? I expect these two to be near the top as well. Also worth watching, Bill Belichick. Is he currently suffering from a post-Super Bowl hangover? Or an actual hangover? We will see this week.
On Tap Recommendation: Check out the list of feature cocktails at Pebble. I’m going with the Hole In One.
Tournament: Omega Dubai Desert Classic
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dates: 2/9/12 – 2/12/12
On Tap: Look for Rory McIlroy to have another solid showing here. He’s had a ton of success here, winning in 2009 and staying in contention the past 2 years. Rors is also coming off a runner up finish in Abu Dahbi. Another player to keep an eye on these week: Martin Kaymer. Not a lot of facts to back it up, I just think he’s due for a breakout performance.
On Tap Recomenndation: With Valentines’s Day fast approaching, score some points with your lady friend by making breakfast in bed, complete with mimosas. You get to watch golf AND score points here. It’s a win-win.
